Sebenarnya ide alam semesta paralel awalnya berasal dari buku komik dan film.
Beberapa ilmuwan tertarik pada subjek ini berdasarkan temuan fisika kuantum yang tidak biasa yang bertentangan dengan hukum fisika klasik.
Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa ada kemungkinan hukum lain beroperasi di dunia pada tingkat yang berbeda dari kita.
Penelitian mereka berlanjut, dan beberapa bahkan menyarankan bahwa alam semesta lain ada kurang dari satu milimeter dari alam semesta kita, di bidang lain.
Tentu saja hukum matematika fisika kuantum menunjukkan kemungkinan realitas yang dibayangkan oleh beberapa ilmuwan, tetapi belum ada bukti pasti tentang realitas mereka yang muncul.
Ethan Siegel menulis tentang alam semesta paralel atau apa yang dia sebut "multiverse":

Alam Semesta Paralel dari Sudut Pandang Al-Qur'an
Setiap pelajar Al-Qur'an yang tulus dapat melihat bahwa itu positif dan tegas dalam mendukung studi ilmiah dan penyelidikan misteri alam semesta kita, serta, di luar perbatasannya.

Memang keberadaan dimensi ruang yang lebih tinggi yang digariskan oleh para ilmuwan hanya mendukung gagasan agama tentang dunia di luar dunia ini.
Penemuan semacam itu akan menjadi penegasan ajaran Al-Qur'an tentang dunia gaib (dunia ghaib) dan bukan penyangkalan terhadapnya.
Islam mengajarkan dengan tegas bahwa hanya ada Satu Tuhan, Allah SWT.
