Drones will be doing patrols over some of some of Sydney's most popular beaches to keep crowds COVID-safe this summer.
Aerial patrols will begin operating at 25 locations across Sydney's Northern Beaches this weekend.
The initiative is aiming to stop beaches becoming too busy by monitoring crowd numbers and feeding the information back to the council.
Council and police will then make a decision on whether or not to restrict access to certain areas.

The measure will run across the Northern Beaches local government area as part of a partnership with the council and Surf Life Saving NSW.
Patrols will start on Saturday from Clontarf in the south to Palm Beach in the North and 해외에이전시 cover Manly Beach, Shelley Beach, Freshwater and Curl Curl.
Drones or unmanned aerial vehicles will capture high-resolution images which will be sent to council and the Surf Life Saving New South Wales operations centre to record beach attendance.

Surf Life Saving New South Wales CEO Steven Pearce said drones have become an 'indispensable' tool for surf life saving operations. 'We've been working with councils on smart ways to keep beaches open this summer ahead of what's going to be a massive season on the New South Wales coastline,' Mr Pearce said.'Nobody, least of all surf lifesavers, wants to close beaches.' 'Certainly I hope that we don't have to close the beaches,' she told 'But if people don't do the right thing, and the beach has become too crowded then we'll have to look at how we manage those numbers because I don't want a repeat of what happened back in in March.'It comes as the weather bureau forecasts scorching temperatures and heatwave conditions across Australia. 'It will also heat up in from Saturday. From Sunday, it will push into Victoria and western parts of NSW. Sunday will see temperatures of up to 46C in Oonadatta in inland South Australia.'This heat has really been sitting over northern Australia over the past weeks.
This week, we're seeing a trough and a cold front dragging heat from northern Australia and dragging it southeast. 'This is a typical summer pattern. Going into Monday, we'll see the heat creep into NSW the ACT. This is the first sign of the summer to come.
We are in a La Niña, so we do expect it to be wetter than normal.'
